STAF Honors Veteran Animal Shelter Volunteers
Save the Animals Foundation’s Holly & Doug Earn Golden Paw Awards for their Compassionate Care of Animals
Save the Animals Foundation (STAF) in Cincinnati is a large, professional no-kill animal shelter for cats and dogs. We often feature their adoptable cats and adoptable dogs. The shelter has announced its 2024 Golden Paw recipients, honoring two volunteers who have gone above and beyond in their service to animals and STAF.
Let’s get to know Holly and Doug.
Cat Volunteer Holly Phillips: Fostered Over 100 Kittens
STAF shares about Holly:
“She is soft-spoken, humble, and somewhat shy, but quite mighty when it comes to making a huge difference for our organization and the greater animal community! She has been rescuing and saving lives for years, and along with her full-time job, she devotes hours and hours of her time every day, every week, year after year, with such extraordinary benefit to STAF.”
Holly is dedicated to helping and healing cats with medical needs, from administering medication with compassion to gently caring for young kittens. Amazingly, she has fostered over 100 kittens. She also assists the Treasurer in financial management and accountability for donor funds. She and her dad were instrumental in renovating the Vet Room and Isolation Room at the shelter.
We are grateful to help STAF recognize Holly for her many contributions to better lives for kitties! Many thanks to her!
Dog Volunteer Doug Duddey: Pioneer of Foster-to-Adopt Program
Doug’s achievements on the dog side of the shelter include:
“The Foster-to-Adopt program you pioneered has opened new opportunities for dogs to find their
forever homes, giving hope to animals who need a bit more time, care, and understanding. Your commitment as a Wednesday morning volunteer for over five years has been greatly appreciated. Your
consistency and leadership have helped us ensure the best possible care for our canine residents, and your presence brings so much joy to both the animals and the volunteers.”
Doug also took special care for Howard, fostering a dog with many needs. He’s dedicated to fostering and training, which help shelter dogs get ready for the transition to a forever home.
We’re pleased to help highlight Doug and all he has done for the dogs of STAF and thank him for his service!
3 Ways You Can Help the Animals of STAF
Holly and Doug have done so much for the cats and dogs who are in the care of Save the Animals Foundation. We can certainly do our part to help, too! Here are three ideas to help the animals of STAF.
- Attend an upcoming fundraising event. On October 6, STAF is hosting a fundraiser at The Pub Rookwood (details here). Visit the STAF Holiday Open House with friends and family to meet the wonderful dogs and cats looking for forever homes (details here).
- Donate to the care and keeping of STAF animals. Donations are tax-deductible– and the only way STAF receives funding for the shelter. Donate now.
- Become a volunteer. Inspired by Holly and Doug’s service? Join them and the other friendly volunteers of STAF! Learn more.
And the best way to help an individual shelter cat or dog is to welcome them home to your family. If you’re ready to adopt, view STAF’s adoptable pets.
